At a very young age, Harvey Friedman, an entrepreneur from Long Island, New York, set out to create his own printing company. Prior to opening his own business, he spent several years making connections and meeting people within the industry; he would eventually work with many of them. In 1976, Harvey Friedman founded Harvey Friedman Printing in New York.

During the early years of the company Harvey relied on word of mouth to get jobs. Remember, this was a time where there was no Internet, no cell phones, and no social media. Harvey had to use other means of communication to grow his business from the ground up. He would meet people on his morning commute from Long Island to New York City and hand them his business card. By the mid-1980s, business was booming. There was such a large need at the time for printing services, mainly because Internet communication did not exist at this point in time. Companies who wanted to get the word out had to rely on print.

Some of the company’s main clients at the time included New York Life Insurance Co. and The Woolworth Corporation. Many of these relationships still exist. One of the company’s largest clients today, Foot Locker, is a division of the old Woolworth business. Because of the large amount of work being received, Harvey was looking to hire someone who would be able to manage the business with him. He ended up hiring his soon to be son-in-law, Anthony. Anthony worked with the intention of one day taking over the business when Harvey retired. After the untimely death of Harvey Friedman in 1999, the name was changed from Harvey Friedman printing to HF Printing Solutions in 2001. Anthony dedicated the business to Harvey and changed the name as a tribute to his predecessor. Today HF Printing Solutions still operates in New York City where it handles business for companies nationwide. HF Printing never forgets where it came from and how Harvey Friedman paved the way.
